Lotus

Lotus is one of those bands whose music just initiates waves of nostalgia for me. I love them because they remind me of my college years and the happy memories associated with their songs (in particular, the ones on their "Germination" album). Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings

Sharon Jones is a national treasure. There's simply no other way of putting it. Please just do yourself a favor and go buy one of her albums (any will do; they're all excellent). You'll thank me. Or you could do yourself an even bigger favor by going to see her live if she comes to a town near you. Jones, who recently "kicked cancer's ass" (GO GIRL!), along with her Dap-Kings (an ultra-talented bunch in their own rights), played one of my favorite shows of 2014 a couple weeks ago at The Vic. Juana Molina

Argentine sensation, Juana Molina, wowed the crowd at the Old Town School of Folk Music a couple weeks ago with her experimental, ambient electronica. Molina, who left her career as an accomplished comedic actress to pursue music instead, has had tremendous success internationally (and has developed quite a cult following here in the U.S.).
