Broad City Live and Phoebe Robinson

If for nothing else, 2014 has been good to us because it gave us one of the most hilarious television shows in years, Broad City. Co-stars and creators of the show, Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer (both Upright Citizens Brigade alums), took their web-series-turned-Comedy-Central-hit on the road recently. They performed two sold-out stand up shows at Lincoln Hall in November and brought down the house each time. The awesome Phoebe Robinson, who went to my high school (Go Lancers!), and who's also a very funny lady, warmed up the crowd for both shows. Go check out these incredible women of comedy!! They started from the bottom now they're here. Bring on Broad City Season 2!

Tweedy on Sound Opinions

Anyone who knows me knows that my favorite musician in the whole world is Jeff Tweedy. Perhaps you know him as the frontman for Wilco or from his work with Uncle Tupelo, but recently he's taken on a new side project and coined it (fittingly) Tweedy. A few weeks ago he stopped by Lincoln Hall with his son and drummer for Tweedy, Spencer, and the rest of the band to record a live taping of WBEZ's Sound OpinionsGreg Kot and Jim DeRogatis interviewed Jeff and Spencer about their upcoming debut release, Sukierae, which boasts 20 songs (pure happiness for all Jeff Tweedy enthusiasts). After, the full band (Jeff, Spencer, Darin Gray, Jim Elkington and Liam Cunningham) treated the audience to a solid set of songs off the new album, ending with a few fan favorites. It was glorious. For more of my photos, head here or here.

Swans and Xiu Xiu

Swans rocked the sh!t out of Lincoln Hall a month ago and I'm finally getting around to posting some of my photos from their epic performance. Pardon the delay, but I blame it all on technology failing me for the past month. First my CF card malfunctioned while I was shooting Disclosure at Lincoln Park Zoo and I lost every image (sob!!!) and then my computer crashed out of nowhere and I had to buy a new one. SIGH. Anyway, I'm back up and running and trying to catch up on some of my posts so....back to SWANS! They are absolute No Wave legends, they sound better than ever, and they just released yet another killer album this year ("To Be Kind"). They also put on a hell of a show. Xiu Xiu kicked off the night with a solo noise set, quite a departure from his normal live act. To see more of my photos, head over to BV Chicago and/or Lincoln Hall.

Swans
(This is Michael Gira. He is a genius and he's staring into my soul right here.)

Side note: I love this guy. Thor Harris. I've seen him play with Bill Callahan (one of my favorite musicians), Shearwater and now Swans. He's awesome.
